Violent confrontation over gambling on Diwali leaves one dead and three injured

A 22-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in a shooting that occurred during a confrontation between two groups over gambling on Diwali night in the Katra Dulo area of Amritsar, according to police reports on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Arun from the Pandoor Warrainch village, while the injured individuals are Manpreet Singh, also known as Manu, from Bal Kalan village, Ramandeep Singh, also known as Deep, from the Kotla Tarkhana locality, and Arjun from the Dhan Khatrian locality of Amritsar city.

Police have apprehended three individuals involved in the shooting, identified as Nitin from Katra Dulo, Arshdeep Singh from Pandoori Warrainch, and Hira Singh from Guru Ki Wadalo village.

The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. during a gambling game at Nitin’s house. According to police reports, the shooting erupted between two groups led by Samsher Singh Shera from Pandoori Warrainch and Ladi from Gujjarpura. Local residents stated that 20 to 25 rounds were fired during the altercation.

Inspector Surmel Singh, who visited the scene, stated, “We received information that two groups were involved in a fight. When we arrived at the scene, we found Arun’s body. Our teams are investigating to determine the reason behind the shooting. So far, we have learned that it was a dispute between the Shera and Ladi groups.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Amritsar Central MLA, Ajay Gupta, commented on the incident, stating that the shooting was related to gambling. “Nitin has been arrested while his brother is on the run. We have urged the police to take strict action against all the accused,” he added.

Police have filed a case under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and various sections of the Arms Act at D Division police station against the accused.

The situation is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to bring those responsible to justice.
